Entry Level CNC Machinist​/Operator

North Coast Imagineering and Manufacture, LLC, is a small shop in Calumet, MI, that specializes in the unusual for machining. Our 4-axis vertical mill, 4+1 axis mill-turn, and our 2-axis CNC lathe are kept busy with low to medium volume production and job-shop type work, experimental machining for new materials, and prototyping for product development. Pay is based on skill.

Maximum utilization of existing or on-the-job acquired skills programming, setting up, and operating CNC machine tools along with the inspection of the components produced.

NCIM shop staff are expected to master basic M&G program writing with on-the-job training. As fundamental functions are mastered (i.e. basic profile movement, radius compensation), advanced programming techniques with loops, nested loops, and parametric based programming will be introduced. After programming fluency is achieved, CAM software will be introduced. Machine setup, tooling selection, and various machining techniques are part of the training process.

Component inspection with calipers and micrometers along with technical print interpretation, CAD model interrogation, and other forms of quality control will be involved as well.

Solid, honest effort to produce high-value quality components in a timely fashion while assisting in the general upkeep of the equipment and shop with safety in mind at all times. If you have no desire to learn and grow, this is NOT the position for you.

Entry level candidate starting out part time at reduced wage while training and progressing to full time at competitive wages once basic skills / safety have been demonstrated. Possessing the following qualifications will influence the starting wage and training time:

• a) Basic understanding of lathe and mill operations on either manual or CNC equipment.
• b) Knowledgeable of the proper use of basic Hand Tools, calipers, and micrometers.
• c) Solid foundation in basic mathematics including Algebra I, trigonometry, Cartesian / polar coordinate systems.
• d) Some history of simple programming in C++, Visual Basic, or M&G code.
• e) General mechanical and fabrication skills.
• f) Some exposure to CAD, capable of interpreting detail prints.
