Position: GRADUATE REGISTERED NURSE DMC

Overview

The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) is a nationally recognized health care system that serves patients and families throughout Michigan and beyond. DMC is hiring Graduate Registered Nurses for all facilities and all shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates and cooperates with care team members to ensure consistency and quality of care, promoting productive employee relations among staff. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, the mission, vision, and values of DMC, and adheres to DMC Customer Service Standards.
  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse, coordinates patient care activities, including patient/family education, for an assigned group of patients. Acts as the care coordinator for uncomplicated patients, utilizing available clinical pathways and protocols. Incorporates discharge planning into the care plan at the time of admission, evaluates progress toward goals, modifies plans to achieve desired outcomes, and participates in cost containment efforts.

    Facilitates and manages interdepartmental patient care activities to assure efficiency and optimize outcomes.
  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse, provides direct patient care as determined by patient, family, and unit needs:
    • Determines patient and family needs, identifies goals, and develops and implements a plan to meet those goals while practicing culturally sensitive, patient‑ and family‑centered care.
    • Ensures physician orders are executed according to plan.
    • Documents and communicates patient responses to care and treatments; monitors laboratory values for therapeutic ranges of medications; assesses side effects and responses to medications.
    • Participates in identifying quality improvement opportunities in response to patient, family, visitor, and physician feedback.
    • Promotes patient, family, employee, visitor, and unit safety.
    • Identifies learning needs of patients and families regarding current health status, ongoing care needs, and home care requirements; initiates and coordinates interdisciplinary teaching and discharge planning; and provides discharge instruction on treatment, follow‑up, and medication use.
  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse, collaborates with physicians, care management specialists, and other health care providers throughout the nursing process:
    • Contacts and interacts with care management specialists and continuum care management specialists as indicated by patient assessment for risk factors and referral mechanisms.
    • Seeks input from other caregivers in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Temporary authorization to practice as a graduate nurse under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, as required by law or state regulation.
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Michigan within 90 days of hire. Failure to obtain the license within this period may result in reclassification to Nurse Associate or termination.

  • Ability to adjust job-related practices, priorities, and procedures in response to changing conditions.
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to move patients, transport supplies, insert needles and catheters, prepare medications, and perform emergency CPR maneuvers.
