Advanced Quality & Supplier Development Engineer – Sterling Heights, MI
A leading automotive manufacturer in the Sterling Heights, Michigan area is seeking an Advanced Quality & Supplier Development Engineer to join its growing team. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity offering competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and long-term career growth.
This position will play a critical role in supplier quality, new product launches, APQP/PPAP activities, and driving continuous improvement throughout the supply base. If you have a strong automotive quality background and enjoy working directly with suppliers to improve quality and manufacturing performance, we'd love to connect.
Responsibilities- Lead supplier quality and development activities from new product launch through production.
- Drive APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, SPC, and continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers.
- Partner with suppliers to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and reduce quality issues.
- Support supplier audits, process audits, and product audits to ensure compliance with IATF and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations to develop and qualify new suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance and drive improvements in quality, delivery, and overall performance.
- Support safe launch activities and ensure customer-specific quality requirements are achieved.
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams.
- Travel locally and internationally as needed to support supplier development activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of automotive manufacturing experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in automotive process and product auditing.
- Strong understanding of:
- APQP
- PPAP
- DFMEA & PFMEA
- SPC
- Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions
- IATF 16949 quality systems
- Experience working directly with automotive suppliers.
- Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
- IATF Internal Auditor certification
- Lead Internal Auditor certification
- Experience with GM, Ford, Stellantis (Chrysler), Toyota, or Volkswagen customer requirements
- Experience with plastic injection molding, painted components, or Class A cosmetic automotive parts
