General Function

Selected candidates are intended to become a Retail Personal Banker I after completing a 4‑8 week on‑boarding and education program that includes rotations in operations and Sales & Service. The role focuses on using the consultative sales process to proactively identify and meet the financial needs of customers or prospects, while processing teller transactions and working as a member of the platform staff.

The Person al Banker I is accountable for risk management, customer experience, and ensuring actions and behaviors drive a positive experience.

Responsibilities
  • Use the consultative sales process and Financial Needs Assessment to build a thorough customer profile and identify current and future financial needs.
  • Maintain in‑depth knowledge of retail consumer and small business products/services and recommend appropriate solutions using the bank’s value proposition.
  • Utilize CAMP and other approved marketing tools to proactively reach out to customers and set appointments for periodic financial reviews.
  • Focus on cross‑selling to existing customers and engage in outside sales activities such as Membership Advantage onsite presentations, business sales calls, and community financial literacy events.
  • Establish close working relationships with assigned Business Partners (Mortgage, Small Business, Commercial and Investment) and refer customers when appropriate.
  • Consistently meet or exceed customer experience and individual/team production goals, enhancing year‑over‑year revenue growth as measured by the Financial Center P&L.
  • Provide guidance to CSRs regarding the sales and referral process.
  • Promote customer satisfaction with a friendly, helpful demeanor and professionalism.
  • Act with confidence by answering customer questions and owning customer issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all business information and uphold trust and responsibility.
  • Follow the Bancorp Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and all related policies at all times.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures while opening and servicing the full range of retail products.
  • Participate in the consumer loan and bankcard process, owning sourced loans from application through closing.
  • Participate in the opening/closing process of the Financial Center or Bank Mart as directed.
  • Keep up to date on retail procedures designed to mitigate fraudulent activity and unnecessary risk or exposure.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • College degree or equivalent work experience providing transferable skills.
  • Experience in the financial industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop comfort with sales activities that acquire new consumer households and small business customers and cross‑sell to established customers.
  • Ability to analyze credit and financial information using advanced math functions.
  • Professional appearance and verbal/written communication skills representing Fifth Third Bank.
  • Working knowledge of retail policies and procedures to make sound decisions with good judgment.
  • Must hold S.A.F.E. Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). The NMLS website provides the MU4R questions and registration required for employment in this position.
Working Conditions

Normal office environment with extended computer screen use. The program requires travel within the affiliate for training and scheduling flexibility. Travel outside of the affiliate may be required for various classroom training sessions.
