The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. The Public Safety Officer will maintain the safety and security of their building by responding to emergency and non‑emergency situations. The position involves maintaining confidentiality, conducting investigations, and ensuring proper communication with staff. This is a full‑time role that requires flexibility and strong decision‑making skills. Officers are certified under the PA‑330.
Responsibilities- Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls.
- Supervise and investigate incidents, maintaining professionalism under stress.
- Conduct thorough investigations and write detailed reports.
- Apply state and federal law provisions and department procedures.
- Minimum high school diploma plus some college coursework.
- Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
- MCOLES certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification.
- Previous law enforcement or security experience preferred.
- Strong communication, investigation, and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to make quick decisions and maintain confidentiality.
$20.13 - $24.01 an hour (Hourly rate based on CCLPI salary schedule; new hires typically placed at the base of the salary scale).
1 FTE (8 hours per day, 5 days per week).
