School Bus Dispatcher.
Drivergent Transportation is a Metro Detroit school transportation company, with over 14 years of transportation experience, looking for motivated, customer-focused individuals who want to join our team!
Location / Schedule- Headquarters (Sterling Heights, MI)
- Monday-Friday Day Shift
- Occasional Saturday Shift (estimated to be once per month)
- $25 - $27 per hour
- Full-Time

- Direct and monitor daily assignments; schedule drivers, bus attendants, and assign vehicles to ensure coverage of all routes, field trips, and charter work.
- Ensure direct and indirect daily activities of drivers and bus attendants are assigned and accomplished on time.
- Communicate all relevant details of driving assignments to drivers to ensure proper execution.
- Assist drivers with routing directions and direct them to perform special services when required.
- Handle telephone calls, emails, and radio calls.
- Respond to emergency calls, facilitate emergency response network, coordinate mechanical service repair, and assign replacement buses and drivers when a route has a problem.
- Notify district and building personnel of all changes in route assignments, emergency situations, accidents, breakdowns, or any other event that may disrupt service.
- Serve as a primary communication liaison with major contacted customers.
- Provide solutions to drop‑off and pick‑up problems.
- Handle back‑up driver duties and perform miscellaneous clerical duties as needed.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Assist with supervision of day‑to‑day operations.
- Maintain route documentation and records (relevant contact requirements, school information, student data, route changes, relevant maps, vehicle details, bus assignments, driver details) for the purpose of providing accurate and reliable information to customers and complying with district and state requirements.
- Coordinate vehicle service and mechanical repairs with Maintenance Supervisor to assure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Maintain high compliance with dispatch standard operation procedures.
- Handle customer concerns and requests for information in an expeditious and professional manner.
- Escalate unresolved issues to management as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED. Some college education a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of prior dispatch experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing per DOT regulations.
- Have and maintain eligible driving records per all applicable client district policies and state/federal laws.
- Must pass State and Federal Criminal Background Check per MDE regulations and client district policies.
- Ability to pass DOT physical requirements and obtain valid DOT medical card.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Michigan Commercial Drivers License (B) with valid P and S endorsements.
- Ability to take and pass Continuing Education Class (Advanced School Bus Driver Training) every 2 years.
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced work environment.
- Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate and navigate a full‑size or special‑needs school bus.
- Ability to effectively operate a GPS.
- Ability to work outside in various climate and weather conditions.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Google Sheets, etc.).
- Ability to operate two‑way and emergency radio systems.
- Ability to use office machines (fax, scanner, copier, zip drive, telephone system).
- Prior professional driving experience a plus.
- Bi‑lingual abilities a plus.
