Bus Drivers, Van Drivers, and Substitute Bus Drivers


District/Organization: Allendale Public Schools
Position/Type: Other, part time
Salary: Starting at $23.14/hr for Bus Driving….other wages follow the APS Transportation Agreement Wage Scale.

We are seeking School Bus/Van Drivers to join our team and help ensure the safe transportation of our students. Based on availability, drivers can work a morning route, an afternoon route, or both routes daily. Other trip routes may also be available for drivers.

  • Employee drivers must have a valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with S&P Endorsements (School Bus, Passenger & Air Brake), along with all other requirements to drive a bus.
  • Willing to be trained to pass Chauffeur Endorsement AND Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with S&P Endorsements (School Bus, Passenger & Air Brake), along with all other requirements to drive a bus. APS will provide training to new employee drivers and will pay them during the training to obtain the listed license requirements.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret a map, establish, and maintain proper conduct and safety of passengers on the school bus, and accept/relate to students with a variety of exceptional needs.
  • Exercise good judgment and extreme caution while operating a school bus.
  • Remain calm in an emergency situation.
  • Knowledge of the proper application of first aid practices and procedures.
  • Recognize mechanical safety hazards in the bus.
  • Learn to designate orders of pickup and drop-off, modify bus routes, and prepare related reports.
  • Ability to support all students and care for their well-being.
  • Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
  • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the required duties safely and effectively.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.
  • Meet all requirements of the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and Michigan State Police, including:
    Criminal background check;
    Physical examination meeting FMCSA and Michigan standards; and Drug and alcohol testing compliance.
