Biology Faculty
The Biology Faculty member at Northeastern Junior College is responsible for delivering high-quality, face-to-face instruction in college-level biology courses, such as general biology, human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and possibly other courses as determined by the Department Chair. This role supports student success through effective curriculum development, teaching, academic advising, and collaboration with faculty and staff. The position contributes to curriculum development, student retention, and the overall mission and goals of the college.

Teaching and Instruction:
- Teach a minimum of 30 credits or 38 contact hours per academic year.
- Develop and deliver engaging, learner-centered, effective classroom instruction in both lecture and laboratory settings.
- Design and update curriculum such as demonstrations, tests, homework, and lab work for the biology courses (or related course).
- Using NJC's learning management system (i.e. Brightspace D2L), keep all grades and student progress up to date and accurate.
- Effectively advise students in biology, health sciences, and/or related academic or career pathways.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Collect, analyze, and report data related to student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional level.
- Maintain accurate records, including documentation of student attendance.
- Ensure accessibility of course materials and communications in alignment with state and institutional requirements.
- Maintain regular communication through email and other college communication systems.
- Communicate personal absences in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate professionalism, collegiality, and commitment to the college community.
What You Will Need:
- Fully qualified candidates should have earned a master's degree or higher in biology or a related field. If an applicant has a master's degree in a non-biology field, then 18 graduate hours in biology or a closely related field in biology would be considered fully qualified.
- Significant and successful teaching experience at the high school and/or college level, with preference for college level instruction.
- Presentation, teaching and facilitation skills
- Knowledge/experience with computer technology
- Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings
- Must submit to and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check as a condition of hire.
- Interviewed candidates will be required to prepare and deliver an actual classroom learning experience/lecture before the selection committee. The teaching experience should be 30 minutes in length. A topic will be given to candidates at the time the interviews are scheduled.
What We Can Offer:
This is a full-time 163 days faculty appointment. Annual salary is $44,600-$52,200, depending on qualifications and experience.
