The nature of substitute work does not lend itself to a guaranteed number of days of paid work during an academic year. The position is exempt and on an as-needed basis; the substitute is free to accept or decline any assignments offered. The substitute will remain on the authorized substitute list continuously from academic year to academic year unless:
- the District receives notice that the substitute no longer wishes to be included on the substitute list, or
- in the event of gross misconduct, illegal activity or actions contrary to District policy, or
- the employee is assigned to a regular part-time or full-time position.
Daily rate (per district substitute pay schedule)
- $150.00 without documentation of a 4-year degree but has a 1 year substitute license
- $175.00 with documentation of a 4 year degree and a Professional Teaching License or 3 year/5 year substitute license
Re-1 Valley School District is seeking reliable, flexible, and student-centered individuals to serve as Substitute Teachers across grades K–12. Substitute teachers provide continuity of instruction and classroom management in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain or hold a valid Colorado Substitute Authorization or Teaching License through the Colorado Department of Education
- Ability to pass a background check
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Work is performed in a school environment across K–12 settings
- May require standing, walking, and active supervision throughout the day
