Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher
Re-1 Valley School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher to serve grades 9-12. This position includes leadership of a comprehensive FCS program and active advisement of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) student organization. The ideal candidate will provide engaging, real-world instruction that prepares students with essential life, career, and technical skills while promoting leadership development through FCCLA.

Salary Range & Category: $44,000 - $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule (Extra Duty Stipend for FCCLA Advisor based on Extra Duty Salary Schedule)

Exempt
Work Calendar: 167 days
FTE: 1.0 Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)
Position Summary:
To provide high-quality instruction in Family & Consumer Sciences while developing students' academic, career, and life skills, and to lead the FCCLA program to promote leadership, service, and career readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructional Responsibilities
- Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Colorado Academic Standards for Family & Consumer Sciences
- Teach courses such as:
Foods & Nutrition, Child Development & Parenting, Personal Finance & Consumer Skills, Interior Design / Housing, Career Exploration - Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Integrate career and technical education (CTE) pathways and real-world applications
- Utilize data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes
- FCCLA Leadership
- Serve as advisor for the school's FCCLA chapter
- Organize and supervise student participation in:
District, state, and national FCCLA events, Competitive events and leadership conferences - Support student leadership development and community service projects
- Maintain compliance with FCCLA guidelines and reporting
- Program Development
- Maintain and enhance a high-quality FCS program aligned with CTE and Perkins V standards
- Support Work-Based Learning (WBL) and School-Based Enterprise (SBE) opportunities where applicable
- Maintain classroom labs, equipment, and safety protocols
- Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain current licensure
- Participate in professional development
- Support district and building improvement initiatives
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and stakeholders
- Follow district policies and procedures

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
- Valid Colorado Teaching License with appropriate CTE endorsement, or ability to obtain (additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
- Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
- Knowledge of Colorado CTE standards and career pathways
- Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills required
- Experience teaching secondary FCS courses preferred
- Experience with inquiry-based learning and project-based instruction preferred
- Ability to integrate primary sources and research-based activities
- Experience incorporating technology into instruction
- Bilingual skills preferred
- Strong understanding of Family & Consumer Sciences content areas
- Ability to deliver hands-on, engaging instruction
- Classroom and lab management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction
- Organizational and time-management skills
Working Conditions
- Classroom and laboratory (kitchen/child development lab) setting
- Exposure to kitchen equipment, cleaning agents, and standard school environment conditions
- Occasional evening or weekend events (CTSO activities, competitions, etc.)
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Colorado Teacher Evaluation System.
