High School Physical Education Teacher
RE-1 Valley School District is seeking an energetic and student-focused High School Physical Education Teacher to promote health, fitness, and lifelong wellness among students. We are looking for an educator who encourages students to develop healthy habits, teamwork skills, and personal responsibility through engaging physical education activities.
Position Summary:
The High School Physical Education Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction designed to promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and lifelong wellness. The teacher supports students in developing healthy habits, teamwork, and personal responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruction & Curriculum:
Plan and deliver instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards for Physical Education. Teach skills related to physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Provide instruction in individual and team activities. Promote healthy lifestyle choices and personal wellness. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs. - Fitness & Wellness:
Conduct fitness assessments and monitor student progress. Teach principles of physical fitness, nutrition, and wellness. Encourage students to set personal fitness goals. - Safety & Supervision:
Maintain a safe and structured environment during physical activities. Ensure proper use of equipment and facilities. Monitor student safety during all activities and instruction. - Assessment & Data:
Evaluate student performance and participation. Maintain accurate records of grades and attendance. Provide feedback to students regarding skill development and progress. - Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with colleagues and school staff. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress. Participate in IEP, 504, and MTSS meetings as appropriate. - Professional Responsibilities:
Maintain current licensure. Participate in professional development. Support district and building improvement initiatives. Follow district policies and procedures.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field preferred and will be given first consideration. Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with Physical Education endorsement. Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed. Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards for Physical Education. Strong classroom management and activity management skills. Experience teaching high school physical education.
Coaching experience or willingness to coach preferred. Knowledge of fitness assessment and wellness programming. CPR/First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to demonstrate physical activities and exercises. Ability to stand and move for extended periods. Ability to lift and move athletic equipment (up to 40 pounds). Work may occur indoors and outdoors depending on activity.
