Estimated Pay Range: $22.58 - $33.87 per hour. Sonora Quest Laboratories/Laboratory Sciences of Arizona (SQL/LSA) is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted compensation range is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay the organization believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. The range is based on possible base salaries and does not include the value of the total rewards package.
Actual pay will be determined at offer based on years of experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, and review of current employees in similar roles to ensure pay equity.

Position SummaryThis position performs waived and non‑waived tests as defined by CLIA ’88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. It assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to the department supervisor. The technician may be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.
CoreFunctions
- Performs testing accurately and timely according to established policies and performance standards, including startup, calibration and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Executes independent judgment, identifies resources, demonstrates comprehension of theory and clinical relevance, resolves routine operational and technical problems, and is proficient with computer systems used in the department. Complies with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements.
- Recognizes and ensures validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results, ensuring accuracy of test results, participates in detecting and documenting deviations from defined procedures, and follows through with appropriate resolution.
- Manages supplies and materials efficiently, assists with inventory management, identifies opportunities for financial performance improvements, cost reduction and productivity enhancement.
- Self‑directed and motivated to contribute to supervisory projects, seeks improvement opportunities, actively trains laboratory personnel, performs well in the supervisor’s absence and provides guidance on pre‑analytical, waived and non‑waived testing, and completes required training modules.
- Communicates courteously, professionally, effectively and accurately with internal and external customers, helps resolve communication issues, utilizes appropriate resources for problem solving, demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills, promotes positive teamwork, and attends staff meetings.
- May process and prepare patient samples, including specimen collection, general laboratory specimen processing and referral laboratory processing, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.
- Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science (transcript review will determine eligibility).
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA regulation 42 CFR 493.1489, or other criteria defined in 42 CFR 493.1489 or 42 CFR 493.1491 (including U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training courses).
- Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF or another nationally recognized credentialing agency for review to determine eligibility and provide a translated diploma.
- Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy in applicable departments.
- MLT certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB).
- Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
- Previous experience with phlebotomy and processing.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
