Part‑time, 8.5‑hour days

Hourly Rate: $16.39

Reports To

School Nurse or Principal, as needed for specific duties/daily routines.

Qualifications
  • Willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Willing to be medication certified.
  • Heart for caring and mentoring all students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to quickly assess student needs and prioritize them.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Job Description (Responsibilities)
  • Provides basic health care and first aid to students.
    • Acts as first responder in medical situations.
    • Contacts parents of ill or injured students in accordance with school/health policies and, if needed, prepares students to go home.
    • Follows up on all incident reports with parents to check progress and health of the child.
    • Allows students to express emotional issues and counsels them.
    • Contacts the School Nurse for major illnesses or serious injury, hospitalization, communicable diseases, repeated absences or office visits.
    • Educates students about their bodies/health where appropriate.
    • Records all medical information, visits to the nurse’s office, and phone calls from parents/physicians in computer systems.
    • Documents all care per school policies and State of Colorado standards.
    • Communicates effectively with School Nurse, staff and parents regarding health care needs and concerns to refer students for further medical/dental treatment.
    • Communicates with school office staff and works as a team player.
  • Assists with Health Care Plans, Health Records, and Emergency Cards.
    • Distributes health lists to appropriate staff while maintaining confidentiality.
    • Provides lists to the Nurse routinely.
    • Maintains and updates emergency cards and health records.
  • Annually checks immunization records for all students.
  • Distributes medication per school policies and State of Colorado standards.
    • Maintains and stores student prescription medications.
    • Records and documents appropriate paperwork.
    • Completes incident reports when needed.
    • Ensures students receive prescribed medication daily in a confidential manner (may need to retrieve the student).
  • Maintains medications, first aid supplies and health room clean and orderly.
    • Routinely checks emergency supplies and restocks as needed.
    • Maintains medications for occasional staff use.
  • Clerical and data entry as needed.
  • Updates CPR/First Aid certifications for self.
  • Assists with Health Services projects as needed, supporting the School Nurse.
    • Vision and hearing screenings: organizes forms, sends emails to staff, assists letters to parents and teachers.
    • Maintains screening lists for new students and requests from parents or teachers for grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th.
    • Maintains list of absent students for make‑up screenings or for next‑year screening.
  • Studies and reads current laws and news to provide the best possible care for staff and students, aiming to stay informed for parents, staff and students.
  • Performs specialized treatments delegated by the School Nurse (e.g., catheterization, blood sugar tests, gastrostomy‑tube feedings) to monitor and meet students’ medical needs and/or testing.
