Description of the JobCorrectional Support Trades Supervisor II (CSTS II) is a Food Service Lieutenant for the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) at the Sterling Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff, and inmates; ensuring efficient and effective food service operations and supervising staff and inmates. The position promotes CDOC policies, mission and vision.
Safety and Security- Maintain safety and security of the facility and work sites.
- Train and guide staff and inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, chemicals, and equipment.
- Enforce security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring the environment and inmate behavior.
- Initiate verbal reprimands and, if necessary, physically control inmates with proper restraint or use of force techniques.
- Conduct inmate counts, transportation, and respond to emergency situations such as fights, fires, and escapes.
- Document and report incidents as required by agency policy.
- Provide supervision of assigned staff and inmate workers to maintain safety and security.
- Set performance standards and conduct performance evaluations and training.
- Resolve informal staff and inmate grievances and mentor staff for career development.
- Manage inmate placement, training, evaluations, and schedule while ensuring compliance with policy.
- Comprehensive understanding of CDOC Performance Management Program (PMP) policy.
- Create and maintain a cohesive team; mentor and motivate assigned staff.
- Self‑motivation and decision‑making skills.
- Tactful and diplomatic interpersonal skills.
- Delegate effectively and manage time efficiently.
- Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites.
- Train and instruct staff and inmates in the appropriate use of tools, equipment, and procedures.
- Ensure timely completion of prep, post‑production, and sanitation duties and an organized shift change.
- Ensure safe, secure, compliant, and cost‑effective food service operations.
- Maintain accurate meal service, inventory, and documentation.
- Participate in the hiring process.
- Utilize PMP for staff through documentation of work habits and skills.
- Coach and mentor staff regarding policy, supervision, and processes.
- Initiate verbal reprimands when warranted and use restraints when necessary.
- Resolve conflict and informal grievances at the lowest level possible.
- Five (5) years of experience in food preparation and/or cooking.
- Three (3) years of food preparation experience combined with two (2) years of correctional experience, totaling five (5) years.
- Three (3) years of food preparation experience combined with two (2) years of hospitality experience, totaling five (5) years.
- Understanding of CDOC Performance Management Program (PMP) policy.
- Create a cohesive team and mentor and motivate staff.
- Self‑motivated and proactively communicate.
- Train, communicate, and guide staff and inmates in equipment, tools, and chemicals.
- Conflict resolution and diplomatic interpersonal skills.
- Excellent discernment, decision‑making, time management.
