Position:
Correctional Support Trades Supervisor II (Food Service Lieutenant)
Ensure the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates while supervising efficient and effective food service operations. Promote the CDOC policies, mission and vision, and foster a professional workforce that embodies honesty, integrity and cooperation.
Responsibilities- Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites; train and guide staff and inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals.
- Enforce security procedures, conduct work site searches, monitor workplace environment and inmate behavior.
- Initiate verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically control inmates with restraint or use‑of‑force techniques.
- Perform inmate counts and transportation; respond to emergencies such as fights, fires and escapes.
- Provide safety and security through supervision of assigned staff and inmate workers.
- Train staff and inmates in efficient, safe completion of assigned tasks; stress safe practices and PPE use.
- Cooperate with hiring, performance evaluation, and grievance resolution processes.
- Ensure timely completion of food service duties, sanitation, inventory maintenance and reporting.
- Support hiring process and performance management program (PMP).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of employment experience in food preparation and/or cooking.
- OR: Three (3) years of food preparation experience combined with at least two (2) years of correctional experience in security related duties, or two (2) years of hospitality experience.
Substitutions: Completion of an accredited degree in culinary arts, hospitality or related field may substitute one year for a year.
Required Competencies- Understanding of CDOC Performance Management Program (PMP) policy.
- Team leadership, mentorship and motivation.
- Excellent communication, time management, disposition, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to maintain safety and security of food service operations and respond to emergencies.
- Proficiency in correctional food service operations and equipment use.
- Strong written and oral English communication skills.
- One (1) year or more of supervisory or work‑lead duties in the food service industry or correctional kitchen.
- Experience in extensive inmate supervision and training through food service.
- Professional chef experience in commercial, institutional or military settings.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license (specifically Colorado) and meet driving record standards.
- High school diploma or GED.
- No felony convictions.
- Valid U.S. work authorization.
- Must complete Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training (six‑week program).
