Position: Maintenance Worker I Streets

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled to training required manual labor tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of roadways, public utilities, parks, cemeteries, and other public facilities; uses hand tools, power hand tools, and operates light to heavy duty equipment requiring a CDL in the course of work; assists with routine maintenance, repair or construction tasks to support the functions of multiple divisions in a City department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Under direct supervision of the Division Superintendent or lead worker, the Maintenance Worker I operates within the City of Sterling’s policies/procedures and quality standards while performing the following essential functions and responsibilities: (Essential functions are those functions that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)Performs pre-trip inspection on vehicles according to prescribed procedures and logs preventive maintenance for vehicles, equipment, and motors;

cleans and cares for all tools and equipment needed for job assignment; checks and maintains fluid levels of vehicles and equipment; schedules routine maintenance of equipment and reports and takes out of service malfunctioning equipment;

Operate a variety of light to heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment, including but not limited to: tractor, pickup trucks, dump trucks, jet-utility truck, tractors, loaders, backhoes, skid loaders, jet rodder, cable rodder, compressor, plow trucks, trash trucks, road grater, trailers, etc. Operates other hand and power equipment, such as mowers, edger, chain saws, weed eater, hand tools, power tools, long handle tools, jackhammer, pick-ax, sledge hammers, gas analyzers, grinder, compressor, tamper, locating equipment, chipper, and snow removal equipment.

Perform service and repairs as needed to maintain City owned parks facilities and equipment and other public facilities (e.g., construction projects; minor repairs; interior/exterior building maintenance; troubleshooting minor electrical repairs; masonry; carpentry; plumbing; painting; cleaning restrooms/shop/work areas; etc.) Perform service and repairs to city owned and maintained streets, roadways, alleys and right of way.

Utilizes appropriate department-issued personal protective equipment following all applicable safety rules and regulations;

Carries a City- issued communication device for work-related communications while in Logan County;

Performs other related functions as otherwise assigned, delegated or required by the Division Superintendent or lead worker.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Has no responsibility for supervision but is required to keep notice be responsible of safety of self and others.

The degree of knowledge, ability and physical requirements as outlined under this section is that which is necessary to satisfactory perform the essential functions of this position. Employees should be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential physical functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to perform safely the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge of:

Maintenance practices related to public infrastructures and grounds;

Small equipment and facility maintenance and repair;

Light weight equipment operation sufficient to be able to perform maintenance, clean-up of minor construction projects;
