At Midland States Bank, the base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Compensation is determined by factors such as education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional short‑term incentives (bonus and/or commission) and may include long‑term incentives (stock awards). The Universal Banker Trainee is responsible for delivering excellent customer experiences to current and potential customers. Employees in this role display effective communication skills and exhibit a strong knowledge of the products and services offered. Trainees remain in the position until they prove the ability to effectively place customers in the correct mix of products and services through needs‑based questioning and consistently meet or exceed performance and production goals established by the Banking Center Manager.
CompensationUniversal Banker Pay Range: $18.50–$22.00 per hour.
Primary Accountabilities- Receive cash and checks for deposit, verifying amounts, reviewing endorsements, and assessing checks for potential fraud, including holds.
- Examine cash to guard against counterfeit bills.
- Cash checks in accordance with bank policy.
- Enter transactions into the computer system and issue receipts.
- Provide accurate customer service and balance the cash drawer daily to reduce teller differences.
- Understand basic knowledge of deposit and lending products and services.
- Identify the correct product types through needs‑based questioning to build and deepen customer relationships.
- Assist with basic deposit account openings and maintenance requests with monitoring and coaching from a senior employee.
- Develop sales and product knowledge to achieve personal and team goals.
- Track and monitor sales and opportunities in the customer information software.
- Participate in onsite visits to promote the Employee Perks at Work Program and Merchant Services.
- Proactively engage in outbound teleconsulting to promote and expand current client relationships.
- Attend weekly huddles and one‑on‑one coaching sessions.
- Serve as relief and/or backup teller in other Midland States Bank locations.
- Complete all assigned learning activities on time.
- Demonstrate Midland States Bank core values that support the bank’s culture.
- Participate in bank‑sponsored community activities and initiatives.
- Travel occasionally for training and team meetings; may require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Complete other duties as assigned.

- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift coin and currency bags weighing 25–50 lbs.
