Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Senior Controller
Location: Dulles, VA On Site
Base Salary: $90,000 - $95,000
OverviewA growing and mission-driven organization is seeking a Senior Accountant & Financial Analyst to support key accounting operations, financial reporting, and analysis. This role plays an integral part in maintaining the integrity of financial data while partnering closely with leadership on reporting and strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End Close- Assist with month-end close activities including account reconciliations and journal entries
- Prepare bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
- Support preparation of monthly financial statements
- Perform revenue and expense analysis, both recurring and ad hoc
- Assist with annual budgeting process and financial forecasting
- Support year-end audit and external reporting requirements
- Collaborate with accounting team members including AP, staff accountants, and systems personnel
- Prepare schedules, research variances, and resolve discrepancies
- Provide backup support across the accounting function as needed
- Participate in special projects and process improvements
- Assist with onboarding and training of new team members when applicable
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting required, (preferred GPA of 3.3+)
- 3-5 years of Senior accounting experience, including general ledger and audit exposure
- 1-2 years of public accounting experience preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger processes
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Great Plains or similar) is a plus
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Professional demeanor with a proactive, team-oriented approach
- Ability to lift up to 15-20 lbs occasionally
- Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs
