ROLE

Schnabel is seeking a Staff Accountant to work in our Corporate office in Sterling, VA. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant supports Schnabel's accounting, tax compliance, cash management and reconciliation functions for a nationwide specialty geotechnical construction contractor. This position is responsible for accurate recurring filings, reconciliations and financial support activities while working collaboratively with the accounting team and other internal stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and file weekly, monthly and quarterly state and local payroll withholding, unemployment, sales and use tax, privilege tax and related compliance filings for multiple states.
  • Maintain state and local business licenses, contractor licenses and related compliance records.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and maintain the daily cash schedule.
  • Maintain credit card coding records and reconcile employee company credit card activity.
  • Assist with account reconciliations, journal entry support and month-end close activities as assigned.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audit, tax and internal reporting requests.
  • Maintain organized records and support process improvements for recurring accounting and compliance activities.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s (preferred) or associate’s degree in Accounting.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to learn quickly and independently manage recurring deadlines and follow established procedures.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Professionalism and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working for a multi-state construction contractor.
  • Experience preparing payroll tax and state sales and use tax filings.
  • Knowledge of Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate accounting software.
  • Familiarity with payroll tax, sales and use tax, business licensing and contractor licensing requirements.
  • Experience reconciling bank accounts and general ledger accounts.

  • Base Salary: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 Depending on Experience
