Summary:
The Project Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial management and accounting activities for a portfolio of projects. This role partners with project managers and business leaders to ensure accurate project reporting, budgeting, forecasting, billing, revenue recognition, and compliance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the financial performance of multiple projects from inception through completion
* Monitor project budgets, costs, revenue, profitability, and cash flow
* Review project financial results and provide variance analysis
* Oversee project billing and ensure timely, accurate invoicing
* Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections efforts
* Ensure accurate revenue recognition and job cost reporting
* Prepare and review project-related journal entries and account reconciliations
* Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
* Collaborate with project managers to identify financial risks and opportunities
* Review contracts, change orders, and project modifications for financial impact
* Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
* Support internal and external audits
* Supervise and mentor project accounting staff, as applicable Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
* 5+ years of project accounting experience
* Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
* Strong understanding of job costing, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue recognition
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
* Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
* Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
* Experience in construction, engineering, government contracting, consulting, or professional services environments
* Familiarity with fixed-price, time-and-materials, and cost-plus contracts
