STEM Fabrication Lab Specialist
General Description:
The STEM Fabrication Lab Specialist will support the Fabrication Lab Coordinators in the daily operation of the Fab Lab and assist with programs offered at the Reston Center and Main Campus of NOVA’s Loudoun Campus.
- Facilitates and coordinates programming during the shifts.
- Program planning for workshops and activities to specialized content area.
- Identifying available resources.
- Coordinate training and providing assistance to educational programs in a variety of settings and audiences such as the general public, students, parents, faculty, staff, financial institutions, schools, community organizations, businesses, and subject professional.
- Maintaining Fab Lab operations.
- Oversees of lab, participants, and students, two to three shifts in the evening and/or weekend day.
- Facilitates and coordinates activities, such as summer camps, career exploration opportunities, community EXPOs, and workshops for on-site programs.
- Supports NOVA area school divisions in the world of making and fabrication through student and teacher programs.
- Perform general troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment.
- Understanding of technical computer, STEM and fabrication/making skills in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of fabrication equipment maintenance, inventory, and supplies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to interact and maintain productive relationships with students, faculty, corporations and community agencies.
- Good presentation and strong organizational skills.
- Training skills.
- Experience with fabrication/making in lab setting.
- Experience coordinating supporting staff/volunteers.
- Experience in informal training, and/or outreach activities.
- Experience in general troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment.
- Experience in informal training, recruitment and/or outreach activities.
- Experience in fabrication equipment inventory and supplies.
- Experience in fabrication and/or making in a Makerspace (3D-printing, laser cutting, large format printing, CNC operation, Woodworking, etc).
