BESS Technicians support field-based operations and maintenance for this utility-scale site, focused on safe, reliable operation of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) equipment and associated balance-of-plant. The role performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, controls, and communications issues, accurate documentation in CMMS/service records, and coordination with supervisors, Remote Operation Center monitoring teams, vendors/OEMs, and contractors.
Responsibilities and autonomy scale by level/experience, from supervised task execution to advanced troubleshooting, work leadership, and mentoring as assigned. Employment for this site requires successful completion of MWAA badging and background checks as a condition of site access.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure strict adherence to all safety standards, including OSHA, NFPA 70E principles, state and local regulations, and company safety policies.
- Promote and support a strong safety culture, including hazard recognition, quality job briefings, stop-work authority, and safe work practices.
- Identify, elevate, and support resolution of electrical and operational safety hazards.
- Ensure consistent application of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energized work controls, and PPE requirements across assigned work scopes.
- Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities with the objective of optimizing system performance and operational efficiency.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on BESS equipment and associated balance-of-plant, including PCS/inverters, battery racks/enclosures, HVAC/auxiliary systems, transformers, switch gear, and related controls.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system faults using SCADA/monitoring tools, PLC/controls interfaces where applicable, and OEM diagnostic utilities; verify repairs and return equipment to service safely.
- Interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and OEM manuals to support troubleshooting, maintenance, and safe work planning.
- Use electrical test equipment and field tools as required (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, low resistance ohmmeters as applicable, IR thermometer/camera) for maintenance and verification activities.
- Support monitoring/communications tasks as required, including data extraction, basic network troubleshooting, and coordination with Remote Operation Center monitoring teams and support resources.
- Ensure compliance with O&M agreements, warranty requirements, and service‑level commitments; gather required evidence for closeout/warranty documentation.
- Manage vendor/OEM field activities to support safe execution, scope adherence, quality control, and complete closeout documentation (service reports, test records, punch lists, and as‑left condition).
- Document all work performed, including service reports, commissioning/maintenance records (when applicable), safety observations, and corrective actions; ensure timely and accurate CMMS entries and required reporting.
- Attend training (local/remote) to maintain and expand skills; provide support to remote sites within the operating fleet as needed.
- Collaborate with peers, supervisors, vendors, and subcontractors to execute scopes safely and efficiently.
- Support emergency response activities and Emergency Action Plan execution.

- Participate in environmental compliance programs, inspections, and administrative recordkeeping.
- Support and maintain compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). with environmental incident response and mitigation activities as required.
