Forterra is seeking a detail‑oriented Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team designing and building our autonomous systems. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems, schematics, and layouts for various projects. You will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to create innovative and efficient electrical designs that comply with industry standards and company requirements.
Whatyou’ll do
- Design, build, route, and test cable assemblies and related electronic components.
- Calculate power/load requirements and specify circuit protection, cable connectors, wire sizes, and other electrical components for cable harnesses and associated devices.
- Research and determine interface requirements for integrating various electrical components.
- Develop cable harness schematics and parts list documentation.
- Submit purchase requests for necessary parts and materials.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers to gather essential design information.
- Coordinate design efforts with other engineering disciplines.
- Provide guidance and direction to technicians as needed.
- Integrate electronic components on various vehicle platforms and troubleshoot issues that may arise.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or a related field.
- 4+ Years of experience in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Altium, AutoCAD, Revit, EPLAN, etc.) and electrical design tools.
- Experience in electrical design in production or R&D, preferably with a focus on autonomy or automotive.
- Experience with various communication protocols such as serial, digital, fiber, Ethernet, and CAN bus.
- Comfortable working with multiple vehicle platforms, including military vehicles, trucks, and buses.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and component datasheets.
- Ability to design electrical interfaces for computers and sensors.
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, power supplies, load banks, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
- Experience designing and documenting cable harness assemblies to military and/or industrial specs.
- Experience with aviation or military-style vehicles and electronic systems.
- Proficiency in designing and utilizing military-style circular connectors.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques in electronic design.
- Hands‑on experience designing low‑voltage DC power and distribution systems (e.g., 12V, 24V, 48V).
US Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000

On‑Site in Clarksburg, MD
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included with most of our full‑time, high‑demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra's overall compensation package.
