Our client, an innovative leader in advanced materials and next-generation technology, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive the development of first-of-their-kind mechanical systems!

Location:

Sterling, VA
Compensation: $90,000 - $140,000 DOE

Schedule:

Mon-Fri, standard business hours.

Responsibilities:

Lead the mechanical design of complex assemblies from initial concept through high-fidelity prototyping.
Perform structural, thermal, and modal analysis (FEA) to validate design integrity before physical builds.
Design and execute rigorous test protocols to characterize material performance and system reliability under extreme environments.
Partner with expert machinists and technicians to rapidly iterate on designs, utilizing additive manufacturing and advanced materials to solve "impossible" engineering challenges.
Manage the technical lifecycle of R&D programs, ensuring design intent is maintained from the research phase through low-rate initial production (LRIP).
High-Level Stakeholder Interface:
Translate complex engineering data into technical reports and design reviews for government stakeholders and program partners.

Qualifications:

Education:

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (M.S. preferred).
Experience:

3+ years in a Design/Development or Product Research environment.
CAD Mastery:
Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred), with a focus on complex surfacing, assembly management, and simulation tools.
First Principles Thinking: A strong understanding of mechanics of materials, heat transfer, and dynamics.

Preferred Technical Skills :

Simulation Expertise:

Experience with FEA/CFD software (Ansys, Abaqus, or Solid Works Simulation).
Material Science:
Experience working with advanced composites, exotic alloys, or specialized coatings.
Prototyping:

Experience with 3D printing (SLA/SLS/DMLS) and rapid-turn fabrication techniques.
GD&T:
High proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to ensure R&D prototypes meet exact performance specs.
Clearance:
Active Secret or Top Secret clearance is a major plus.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $90,000.00 - $ Per Year
