Job Description Summary

At Dowty Propellers, a GE Aerospace Company, you’ll join a growing business with career development opportunities by helping ensure the safety and reliability of critical propulsion systems that keep aircraft flying every day. You’ll work in a close knit MRO team with the backing, stability, and benefits of a world class aerospace organization.

The Reliability, Maintainability, and Testability (RM&T) Engineering Leader leads RM&T activities for Dowty Propellers US (Sterling MRO and Field Services) across the product lifecycle, interfacing with the UK Engineering team to close significant technical issues. This role owns recurring and non‑recurring engineering activities related to RM&T, configuration and change management, system safety interfaces, mishap investigation support, and Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages planning.

The RM&T Engineering Leader applies FLIGHT DECK principles, drives closure of significant technical issues, concessions, and safety investigations across the product lifecycle. The role requires strong engineering judgment, effective cross‑functional collaboration, and the ability to influence decisions across engineering, programs, services, and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead RM&T engineering for Dowty US, ensuring requirements are defined, analyzed, verified, and flowed into design, stress, and airworthiness processes.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and best‑practice resource for Dowty US, providing technical guidance on RM&T process.
  • Own recurring engineering and technical services in the RM&T domain, including investigation and resolution of in‑service issues, task reporting, discrepancy notifications, and implementation of reliability and maintainability improvement actions.
  • Lead non‑recurring engineering activities for product changes, upgrades, and corrective actions, ensuring impacts and risks are fully assessed and managed.
  • Support system safety management (SMS), providing engineering inputs to system safety assessments, hazard analyses, and the Propulsion Structural Integrity Program.
  • Lead or support mishap and incident response, including mishap notification, data capture and availability, teardowns, root cause analysis, and Safety Investigation Board (SIB) support, driving effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Drive Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) planning from an RM&T perspective, assessing reliability and maintainability implications of obsolescence and supporting definition of technically sound, cost‑effective solutions.
  • Lead or contribute to cross‑functional projects and initiatives, driving improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost through RM&T‑informed decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing, quality, programs, and services to ensure RM&T considerations are integrated into product architectures, design reviews, test programs, and support strategies.
  • Maintain awareness of latest technical developments, industry standards, and competitor practices in RM&T, and contribute to internal strategy, standards, and policy development within Dowty Propellers.
  • Act as a primary technical interface to key customers, airworthiness authorities, and suppliers for assigned programs.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in aerospace).
  • Minimum of 3 years of aerospace experience.
Preferred Experience
  • Significant experience in aerospace, propulsion, or complex mechanical systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated background in reliability, maintainability, testability, system safety, or configuration/change management.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with RM&T tools and methods (e.g., FMEA/FMECA, reliability prediction, FRACAS, maintainability analysis, testability planning).
  • Familiarity with airworthiness, safety, and configuration management processes in aviation or defense environments.
Leadership and Management
  • Experience leading engineering teams or technical projects, setting priorities, and delivering on commitments.
