Satellite Systems Engineer

Position Overview

Nightwing is seeking a cleared and experienced Satellite Systems Engineer to support U.S. government operations in the Fairfax, VA area.

• Provide Tier 2/3 network support, terminal maintenance, repair, and component repair/return processes.
• Manage spares, equipment inventory, testing, and carrier management.
• Ensure reliable operational readiness for all systems within this global satellite communications network.
• Orchestrate annual field terminal characterizations using existing remote capabilities.
• Monitor status of support infrastructure (radome, equipment shelters, deicers, blowers, emergency power systems, HVAC).
• Perform any additional tasking that ensures operational readiness.

• 6+ years of experience managing and operating satellite communication networks.
• Well‑versed in RF theory, communications satellite network architectures, FDMA, TDMA, BPSK, QAM, and related carrier characteristics (Eb/No, BER, satellite power, bandwidth consumption).
• Experience with WGS and commercial satellite operations utilizing heavy terminals, network field terminals, and tactical systems.
• Proficiency in carrier analysis using digital spectrum analyzers and calculating C/kt, C+N/N, C+N/No, terminal G/T, and EIRP.
• Knowledge of status monitoring of support infrastructure.
• Experience operating/configuring I‑direct subnets and OCONUS travel and field environment.

• Technical/Engineering degree in RF or Satellite communications.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph, U.S. citizen, crossover eligible.
• Weapon certification not required.
• Professional license or certification not required.
• OCONUS or CONUS TDY not required.

• Additional technical and specialty training or certifications.
• Equivalency: 6+ years of hands‑on experience in RF/satellite systems is acceptable in lieu of the educational requirement.
