Overview
The Commissioning Agent supports commissioning activities for new data center construction, expansions of existing facilities, and acquisition evaluations. As part of the Cyrus One commissioning team, this role serves in an owner’s representative capacity to help ensure equipment and systems are installed, tested, documented, and operating in accordance with design intent and operational requirements. The position supports document review, field verification, functional testing, issue resolution, vendor and contractor coordination, and commissioning closeout.
The role partners closely with design, construction, operations, and third‑party commissioning teams and requires regular travel to project sites.
- Attend and participate in meetings with design, construction, operations, and third‑party commissioning teams to understand project goals, schedule, and commissioning requirements and help ensure commissioning activities align with project milestones.
- Review commissioning‑related documentation (equipment submittals, shop drawings, test scripts, operating sequences, turnover materials) for alignment with design intent and owner requirements.
- Support the commissioning team in an owner’s representative role through document review of earlier commissioning activities and field oversight of later stage activities.
- Perform pre‑functional inspections, field observations, and system verification activities to confirm equipment and systems are installed in accordance with project requirements.
- Participate in functional testing of electrical, mechanical, controls, and related building systems to verify performance per approved procedures and design documents.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, project teams, and third‑party commissioning partners to support test readiness, execution, and timely resolution of issues.
- Track commissioning deficiencies, open items, and retesting requirements through resolution and closeout, and communicate status and risks to project stakeholders.
- Support construction, project management, and operations teams in resolving issues that may affect startup, testing, turnover, or operational readiness.
- Review operating modes, sequence of operations, operations and maintenance documentation, and training needs to support turnover and operational readiness.
- Demonstrate accountability for individual performance and contribution to team and business objectives.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes, service delivery, and team effectiveness.

- 6+ years of related experience, including technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls systems, commissioning processes, construction administration, and building systems operation.
- Experience supporting commissioning activities in mission‑critical, industrial, commercial, or other complex building environments.
- Experience reviewing technical documentation, test procedures, submittals, and turnover materials.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with vendors, contractors, consultants, project managers, and operations teams.
- Experience identifying, documenting, tracking, and supporting resolution of commissioning issues through closeout.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using Bluebeam, CxAlloy, and Procore.
- Experience using online reporting and issue‑tracking tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong time‑management and follow‑through skills.
- Ability to develop, document, and improve procedures and support training as needed.
- Travel required up to 75%.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
