Position: Engineer I

Job Summary

The Engineer I is an entry‑level engineering position and is expected to learn and develop competency in the essential duties and responsibilities of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee or collaborate with designers assigned to your work or team.
  • Review, comment, and process equipment and system submittals.
  • Perform coordination between civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, operations, and field teams, and all electrical trades.
  • Prepare designs, check, and specify power, lighting, and auxiliary systems for photovoltaic (PV), distributive generation (DG), battery energy storage systems (BESS), or medium voltage (MV) systems.
  • Develop power single‑line diagrams.
  • Develop and model short circuits and overcurrent protection device coordination studies.
  • Assist with the development of feeder schedules, determine cable losses, and model energy production under the supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Coordinate your work with the project specifications or equipment manufacturers.
  • Visit job sites to field‑survey existing electrical conditions under supervision.
  • Become familiar with engineering analysis programs to analyze loads, lighting levels, and short‑circuit currents under the supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Participate in project team meetings.
  • Interface with various team members, architects, subcontractors, and engineers from other trades.
  • Work closely with the engineering supervisor to understand design criteria and budgetary issues.
  • Assist and develop skills with drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors.
  • Assist with the review of plans and technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates under the supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Assist senior engineers with field observations, design interpretations, and design updates during construction.
Qualifications
  • Ability to learn engineering analytic programs for short circuits, overcurrent coordination, and arc flash mitigation, e.g., SKM, E‑Tap, etc.
  • Develop familiarity with codes and energy‑efficiency requirements.
  • Ability to learn and become competent in AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Map3D, Autodesk Civil3D, Google Earth, PVsyst, PVcase, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), and illuminance software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under the supervisor’s direction.
  • Ability to work to meet deadlines and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position.
  • Ability to be self‑motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally.

What You Bring to Us
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architectural engineering, construction sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • Currently working on Engineering in Training from the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEES).
  • Combination of education, training, and relevant experience is acceptable.
Travel Requirements

Up to 10% travel (does not include local field visits).

Working Conditions

General work environment includes sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, and pushing. Work is conducted primarily indoors with fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the job site. Occasional lifting of up to 30lbs.
