Position: Lead Mechanical Engineer – Active TS Clearance

Mechanical Engineer Position

Role Overview:
We are seeking a driven Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and qualification of complex mechanical systems—including precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical assemblies—within a dynamic program team.

Schedule:

9/80 (Work 80 hours across 9 days out of 14, with every other Friday off)

Workstyle:
Hands-on approach with active lab work, direct hardware interaction, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full Lifecycle Ownership:
    Drive projects from requirements definition and concept generation through material selection, trade studies, design optimization, detailed design, documentation, and integration testing.
  • Prototyping & Testing:
    Prototype, integrate, and test component parts and assemblies; develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems; and evaluate hardware performance.
  • Technical Leadership & Communication:
    Provide formal and informal briefings to internal/external stakeholders and customer representatives. Direct designers, technicians, and operators within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
    Generate Technical Data Package components (part/assembly drawings) and adhere strictly to company processes for product development, configuration management, and purchasing.
  • Design Reviews & Field Support:
    Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, product change review meetings, and support field testing/demonstrations as a mechanical engineering field representative.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education & Experience:

    Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience, OR Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, OR In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Security Clearance:
    Active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance (or held within the last 2 years), with the ability to hold or obtain a favorable polygraph.

Preferred Additional

Skills:

  • Presentation & Leadership:
    Comfortable synthesizing complex technical concepts and presenting them to program leadership.
  • Design Expertise:
    Experience in designing precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, and packaging modules/electronics while balancing thermal and structural loading for optimized size, weight, and power (SWaP).
  • Software & Standards:
    Proficiency in CAD tools (such as Creo) and a strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Advanced Manufacturing:
    Experience in additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).
  • Specialized Technologies:
    Background working with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, and specialized manufacturing processes.
