Position SummaryThe Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting, and customer communication activities daily, including labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower. People management responsibilities include hiring, training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems. Under direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the Supervisor supervises the receiving, warehousing, and shipping of products consistently with company service and cost objectives.
Associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality and comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies.
- Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities and plan for continuous improvement.
- Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues affecting operations.
- Develop systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably in accordance with company policies.
- Manage operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals; implement and report on cost‑saving measures.
- Ensure compliance with client‑specified KPIs and quality system requirements.
- Apply sound communication and motivational techniques, and supervise, counsel, and discipline team members as needed.
- Support Human Resources in hiring, training, and professional development programs.
- Provide annual performance reviews and recommend promotions, wage increases, and other HR activities.
- Plan the daily work schedule by reviewing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions.
- Assess priorities based on time sensitivity and resources, assign duties, and reallocate space and supplies accordingly.
- Train new staff or delegate training to experienced team members.
- Monitor job quantity and quality, offering guidance and advice as necessary.
- Assign supervisory duties to leads for lower‑level staff, and keep management updated on progress or issues.
- Hold regular meetings with warehouse staff to assess status, discuss improvement ideas, and inform about new developments.
- Assist in physical operations as needed, deliver results by leveraging team skills, and maintain high motivation for customer satisfaction.
- Provide growth and development opportunities for team members and support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in logistics/distribution/relevant environment.
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience (preferred).
- Prior MHE certification or knowledge of basic MHE operation (preferred).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with RF scanners and WMS functions.
- English reading, writing, and verbal proficiency; business communication skills.
- Basic to intermediate mathematical skills for inventory verification.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends.
- Adaptability to change, fast‑paced environments, and cross‑training across departments.
- Willingness to work overtime and in variable temperatures.
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
