Overview
The Sterling Mechanic Assistant will be a team contributor to the repair and overhaul of composite propeller systems. In this role, you will assist in the assembly, disassembly, and repair of propellers and related units.
Responsibilities- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment, produce quality results, help control costs, meet production requirements, and develop job knowledge and manufacturing skills.
- Comply with and support all GE and Site policies.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, sanding, and material‑handling equipment.
- Keep all machinery, tools, and work area clean.
- Read and complete forms and generate meaningful reports and charts.
- Read, interpret, and follow mechanical manuals or written procedures and directions.
- Prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Perform a variety of support functions such as warehouse duties, material handling/movement, and area housekeeping.
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 year of mechanical experience.
- Eligibility:
Ability and willingness to work off‑shift, flexible for various shift assignments and overtime. - Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly and occasionally up to 70 pounds; non‑repetitive lifts over 100 pounds with assistance.
- Comfortable working in an area where normal machining operations may produce dust or fumes (not exceeding OSHA permissible exposure limits).
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, sanding, and material‑handling equipment.
- 12 months or more of mechanical experience.
- Vocational training in woodworking, automotive, composites, aerospace, hydraulics, or similar.
- Manual dexterity for safe and efficient task performance.
- Excellent attention to detail, energetic and positive attitude, and strong attendance and punctuality history.
- History of meeting or exceeding job requirements, accepting or giving constructive criticism, and communicating clearly and effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work well under minimal supervision and willingness to take classes in team building and on‑the‑job training.
- Demonstrated knowledge and completion of basic safety courses (PPE, chemical hazard, evacuation & emergency training, etc.).
This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Employment is contingent upon the ability to prove status as a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or an individual granted asylee or refugee status.
