Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist Lead to oversee and drive high-quality machining operations. The role combines hands-on CNC programming, setup and operation with team leadership to meet production, quality and delivery goals. The CNC Machinist Lead will support process development, ensure compliance with engineering prints and quality standards (including AS9100 and GD&T), and mentor machinists to continuously improve efficiency and part accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, optimize and validate CNC toolpaths for milling and turning operations, including 4-axis and 5-axis part programs where applicable.
  • Prepare machine setups and fixtures, perform first-article setups, and run production on mills and lathes to meet schedule and tolerance requirements.
  • Operate CAM software (Mastercam or equivalent) and interact with CAD models to generate accurate toolpaths and post-process files.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and GD&T requirements to ensure parts are manufactured to specification.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections, document results, and collaborate with quality to resolve nonconformances.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling and fixturing issues and implement corrective actions to reduce scrap and rework.
  • Maintain process documentation and records in compliance with AS9100 and internal quality systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production planners on tooling selection, work holding, and process improvements to reduce cycle times and costs.
  • Enforce safe work practices, maintain machine and shop housekeeping, and ensure machines are maintained according to schedule.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience with demonstrated leadership or lead responsibilities (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
  • Proven skills in CNC programming, machine setup and operation on mills and lathes.
  • Required:

strong proficiency with CNC machining and general machining principles.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and apply GD&T to inspection and machining.
  • Experience with CAM software (Mastercam preferred) and CAD models; ability to edit toolpaths.
  • Preferred: experience with 4-axis and 5-axis machining and aerospace manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace documentation practices is a plus.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for machining processes, tooling and fixturing.
  • Strong communication, team leadership and training skills with a focus on safety and quality.
  • High School or Technical diploma, relevant certifications (GD&T, Mastercam) are desirable.
