CNC Machinist/Operator

Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist/Operator to set up, program, operate, and maintain CNC milling machines and lathes to produce precision parts to print. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on CNC machining experience, be able to interpret engineering drawings, perform quality checks, and troubleshoot machining processes. This role supports production schedules, continuous improvement efforts, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program (when required), and operate CNC milling machines and lathes to produce parts to specification.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders; apply GD&T principles when inspecting parts.
- Perform machine setup including tooling selection, fixturing, offsets, and CNC setup for 3-axis, 4-axis or 5-axis operations as required.
- Operate and monitor CNC equipment during production runs, making adjustments to feeds, speeds and tooling to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Execute CAM programs and post-process as necessary; make minor program edits at the machine to optimize cycles and resolve issues.
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges and other measuring tools; document and report quality results.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on machines and tooling; maintain accurate job documentation, production logs and tool records.
- Collaborate with engineers, programmers and team members to improve processes, reduce scrap and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area to comply with company and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist/Operator with hands-on CNC machining experience (required).
- Working knowledge of CNC setup and operation for 3-axis machines; experience with 4-axis and 5-axis machining is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with CAD and CAM software and workflows; experience with Mastercam or similar CAM packages preferred.
- Understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerancing) and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience operating lathes and milling machines; ability to program/edit CNC code at the machine is advantageous.
- Strong measuring and inspection skills with experience using calipers, micrometers, height gauges and other precision instruments.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining issues, optimize cutting parameters, and select appropriate tooling.
- Good communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training, apprenticeship or relevant certification in CNC machining preferred.
