Installation Technician
Position Overview
A mid‑level video surveillance technician installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots IP‑based video surveillance systems. The role requires a solid foundation in networking, electrical, and basic mechanical systems.
Responsibilities Installation & ConfigurationInstall and configure IP cameras, NVRs/servers, and associated networking hardware.
Troubleshooting & RepairDiagnose and repair hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical issues on‑site, including camera positioning systems, mounts, and enclosures.
System UpgradesPerform firmware updates and recommend system upgrades.
Networking & IntegrationConfigure IP addresses, VLANs, and ensure proper network integration.
Maintenance & AuditsConduct preventive maintenance, including inspection and adjustment of both electronic components and mechanical assemblies.
DocumentationMaintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and cabling.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in electronics is preferred.
- 3+ years of low‑voltage wiring and surveillance systems installation experience.
- Deep understanding of IP video, CCTV, networking protocols (TCP/IP), and VMS software (e.g., Milestone, Axis, Hikvision).
- Basic mechanical knowledge for installing, adjusting, and repairing physical system components.
- Experience or certifications: BICSI installer certifications (1 or
2) or manufacturer certifications (Axis, Milestone).
- Independent problem‑solving without supervision.
- Communication:
Interfacing with clients to provide training on system usage. - Attention to detail:
Meticulous approach to recording and reporting surveillance malfunctions.
- Exposure to bright light, extreme temperature, loud noise, dust, gas, or fumes.
- Work in unprotected weather elements.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and work with arms raised for prolonged periods.
- Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours per day.
- Capability to lift equipment up to 50 lb, climb ladders, and work with cabling and mounted systems.
