Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Experienced Mid-Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Sterling, Virginia.

• Hourly Pay: $28.00 per hour
• Sign On Bonus: $1,250 at 30 days and $1,250 at 90 days
• Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter – four times per year
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, Weekends OFF
• Hours:
  
  10:00 am – 7:30 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification or Post‑Secondary degree preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required areas preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A preferred
• This position requires you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
• Obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
• Pass an additional employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check, road test, and/or background requirements of the customer as needed

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Carry out standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections and repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
• Identify root cause of basic failures or conditions and perform required repairs
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers and drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to Service Island support
