Job Description Summary
This position involves ensuring proper working conditions, dismantling and reassembling equipment, fabricating parts, diagnosing mechanical issues, adhering to safety standards, providing training to mechanics and customers, conducting preventive maintenance, and performing various shop duties.
Responsibilities- Maintain proper working conditions when leaving the shop
- Dismantle and reassemble/rebuild equipment
- Fabricate parts and equipment as required to meet shop and customer needs
- Diagnose complex mechanical equipment problems
- Adhere to all safety standards prescribed by Sunbelt Rentals Management, including company vehicle upkeep
- Provide training and mentoring to other mechanics engaged in equipment repairs or maintenance
- Provide training and assistance to customers on operation of load banks
- Conduct preventive maintenance to avoid unnecessary repairs and downtime in the field
- Make ready and receive low and medium voltage cables, all AC & DC load banks, power distribution items, and transformers for rental customers
- Troubleshoot and repair small load banks, resistor racks on large load banks, power distribution items, and low voltage cables
- Assess time and cost of repairs
- Attend and participate in all profit center meetings
- Document projects, including daily notes, labor logs, progress reports, JSS, JSA, etc.
- Perform safety inspections on equipment
- Be available for on‑call emergency service as scheduled
- Operate basic and advanced hand tools, metering tools, forklifts, pallet jacks, and shop tools
- Maintain a clean and safe shop work environment
- Adhere to all company, governmental, and equipment‑related safety requirements
- Attend all training and manufacturing training as directed
- Perform other duties assigned by the manager
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Electrical knowledge and experience
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Clear understanding of equipment safety and a high level of safety consciousness
- Proficiency in using mechanic’s tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Customer service skills required
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Operational process/system aptitude
- Ability to communicate equipment issues and understand job assignments
- Flexibility regarding work assignments and ability to prioritize them
Must be able to bend, squat, crouch, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds or more. May require driving for long periods, loading and unloading heavy equipment, and performing work in extreme weather conditions, including rain, wind, excessive temperatures, and/or night and weekend work. All duties must be performed according to Sunbelt’s safety policies and guidelines. Reasonable accommodations may be made to comply with ADA/ADAAA.
