Highways Operative – 156293

Stevenage, Hertfordshire

To carry out general maintenance works and operations, working with a Chargehand, undertaking a wide range of routine and cyclical tasks. Respond to emergencies and call-outs during or out of hours on rosters as required and assist with winter maintenance activities as a second man or driver’s mate. Includes apprentices who have fully completed training.

• Manual Handling
• Abrasive Wheels
• Emergency First Aid
• Safe Dig
• Current Driving License
• CSCS card if client requirement
• Minimum level of everyday behaviour as set out in the company behaviours matrix

• Apply a wide range of generalist skills
• Understand risk assessments and comply with safe systems of work
• Carry out work as set out in a specification
• Generally have 12 months+ experience
• Potential & interest in obtaining an LGV licence
• Training completed in:
  General health & safety awareness, Risk assessment awareness, Traffic Management, Use of PDA as required
• Ability to use small plant and equipment
• Ability to operate a mini excavator

• Team player, prepared to contribute and participate fully in teamwork
• Prepared to work varying hours to meet business needs
• Willingness to apply skills to a variety of highways jobs with changing team members
• Prepared to develop and undertake relevant training and qualifications
• Capable of completing record sheets, paper or electronic
• Responsible for plant and equipment
• Uses own initiative
• Understands and is responsible for personal safety and that of others
• Available for emergency and/or winter call outs

Permanent

Full Time – 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday
