Position Title:

Summer Conference Coordinator Hourly Pay

Job Category:

Student Hourly

Job Profile:

Student Help

Job Summary:

Summer Conference Coordinators (SCC) prepare the residence halls for incoming conferences, participate in room and building inspections prior to and after each camp, facilitate guest check-in and check-out, and provide resources and referral to conference participants. Summer Conference Coordinators are one of the first points of contact for campers as they arrive on campus; therefore, a pleasant, professional demeanor is essential.

In addition, conference bills are generated based on information provided by the SCC. The information they provide must be clear and accurate.

Supervision:

Summer Conference Coordinators will be supervised and work directly with the Summer Conference Admin and Staffing Coordinator. SCCs will also work with the Summer Conference Operations Coordinator as needed.

Specific duties:
  • Stay on campus in the assigned hall when on duty if necessary.

  • Routinely work alone, or as part of a team, operating the hall desk.

  • Assist in preparing conference check-in procedures and perform other administrative tasks prior to conference arrivals.

  • Operate hall desk during conference: greeting guests, performing check-ins/check-outs, maintaining hall security, providing information, and facilitating other services.

  • Create informational signs and bulletin boards.

  • Maintain key and CBORD card inventory for assigned hall.

  • Assist with minor cleaning and repairs throughout the building.

  • Call appropriate personnel when maintenance, vending, or laundry problems arise.

  • Submit maintenance work orders as necessary.

  • Serve in a 24-hour on-call rotation with other SCCs.

  • May be required to work some late evenings, early mornings, long hours, and weekends, due to the nature of summer conferences. Work schedules vary weekly and are established about one week in advance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

General qualifications:

The requirements of this position may be compatible with taking classes in the summer. As a guideline, you must:
Be an enrolled student at a UW System school.

  • Be in good conduct standing at UWSP, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

  • Have general knowledge of Housing and Residence Life, the campus, and the Stevens Point community.

  • Be able to work well with people.

  • Possess good leadership, communication, organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently of a supervisor.

Time off:

Each SCC may be allowed up to eight (8) days off during the summer, though not necessarily consecutively (in addition to regularly scheduled days off). Time off must be requested in writing and approved by the supervisor at least two weeks in advance. Requests for time off may or may not be approved, depending on the conference schedule. No time off should be expected during the month of August.

Specific days off needed in August must be disclosed prior to signing your employment contract.

Benefits and other information:
  • Compensation for work performed will start at $12.00 per hour, plus merit and longevity, based on previous summer Housing and Residence Life experience.

  • Free single bedroom in summer hall (Suites @201) is offered to all summer staff while on contract; SCC are required to live on campus in the summer.

  • About twenty (20) hours per week is the norm. Forty (40) hours per week is not guaranteed but there may be opportunities to pick up additional hours working with Project Crew. In general, SCC hours are varied, and evening and weekend appointments may be required.

  • SCC is allowed to take summer classes as long as 20 hours per week are maintained.

  • If you accept a full-time position in Housing and Residence Life, you may not work for another UWSP department concurrently, as this would put you into overtime pay status.
