Job Summary

A Graduate Assistant is used primarily to designate a graduate student who has been assigned responsibilities in an instructional department. A Research Assistant is a graduate student working towards a Master's or Ph.D. degree. An appointment as a research assistant is appropriate if the activity performed by the research assistant is primarily for the benefit of the individual's course of study and research and directly applicable to the individual's thesis or dissertation.

A Teaching Assistant is a graduate student who is enrolled in the University of Wisconsin system who is regularly assigned teaching and related responsibilities, other than manual or clerical responsibilities, under the supervision of a member of the faculty.

Key Job Responsibilities

The Graduate/Research/Teaching Assistant will support instructional activities within the College of Natural Resources, contributing to education in the field, lab, and community. These responsibilities may include providing academic support to students, assisting faculty with course administration, and participating in research projects related to the student's area of study.

Compensation & Benefits

The Research Assistant/Teaching Assistant is a part-time, salaried, exempt, academic year (9-month), student assistant position. The Graduate Assistant is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt, academic year (9-month), student assistant position. This position may become hourly if the employee has other student hourly appointment(s) and/or due to FLSA requirements. Required Qualifications
  • Be admitted to a graduate degree program at UW‑Stevens Point.
  • Be in good standing in the degree program (maintain at least a 3.0 GPA).
  • For a research assistant, must be enrolled for at least 9 graduate credits at the beginning of the academic year or 5 graduate credits during the summer.
  • For a graduate or teaching assistant, must be enrolled for at least 4 graduate credits at the beginning of the academic year or 3 graduate credits during the summer (recommended maximum course load 9 credits per semester).
