Job Duties:

This is a twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position in the UW-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources (CNR) that also serves as an affiliated Extension specialist with the UW-Madison Division of Extension’s Natural Resources Institute. The successful candidate will integrate applied research, technical assistance, and community engagement with Extension, while supporting the CNR’s undergraduate education and outreach mission. As part of the faculty and staff team within the Center for Watershed Science and Education (CWSE), this position is expected to assist communities and other stakeholders in the investigation and management of current and emerging water resource concerns in Wisconsin and the surrounding region.

Focus Areas:

• Contaminants of Emerging and Legacy Concern
  :
  Investigate the occurrence, fate, and transport of chemical or biological contaminants (e.g., bacteria, chloride, nitrate, pesticides, PFAS, nitrate, pharmaceuticals, or viruses) in surface and groundwater. This includes developing outreach strategies to help communities and individuals mitigate health risks and implement effective treatment or management solutions.
• Surface Water and Watershed Management
  :
  Advance the understanding of how physical, chemical, and/or biological processes can affect water quality within wetlands, ponds, lakes, and streams. This focus area bridges water quality with ecosystem health, supporting fisheries and aquatic habitat management through watershed-scale interventions and stakeholder engagement.
• Groundwater and Agricultural Systems
  :
  Address the intersection of land use and groundwater. This includes conducting applied research on how agricultural practices impact aquifer health and working directly with producers and rural communities to balance productive landscapes with sustainable water resources.

• A. Extension 75% Create an Extension and applied research program focused on at least one of the above focus areas. Develop client audiences for focus area(s), offer educational assistance to communities, and engage stakeholders in direct support of the Natural Resources Institute’s programming missions. Collaborate with the CWSE’s Water and Environmental Analysis Laboratory in direct support of applied research goals and outcomes.
  
  Engage with the network of Extension faculty and staff across the state to serve the state’s needs and contribute to the shared organizational mission of Extension. Provide leadership and sound‑science communication in support of affiliated goals. Secure extramural grant funding to engage and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in furthering Extension programming. This position may require possible evening and weekend hours.
• B. Teaching 25% Responsible for teaching one upper‑level water course per semester that supports the Fisheries and Water Resources degree options and CNR programming. Provide support and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students consistent with the role of Professor in the CNR. As a faculty member of the Fisheries and Water Resources Discipline and CNR, participate in processes for curriculum, strategy, and faculty/staff governance and oversight.
  
  Expected to demonstrate scholarly activity and provide service to the College and community.
