Media Studies

This position focuses heavily on undergraduate teaching in a program that integrates comprehensive technical training with a rigorous critical approach. The department, housed in the School of Design and Communication in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, is a strong, devoted community of media scholars, producers, practicing artists, and designers committed to its students and collegiality. The ability to interface with faculty and students in Media Studies, Professional Communication, and Graphic Design is a significant aspect of the position.

The new faculty member will be tasked with building a program in Sports & Performance Media and collaborating in defining the wider trajectories of both the program and department, particularly at the intersection of communication and media studies.

Key

Job Responsibilities:
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
Compensation & Benefits:

The Assistant Teaching Professor of Media Studies is a full-time, salaried, academic year position (9-month).

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $57,000 - $ 62,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in Media Studies, Sports Media, Media Production,
  • Broadcasting, Digital Media, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise with industry standard hardware, software, and
  • modern streaming platforms (e.g., video switchers, character generators, audio mixing consoles, and streaming encoders).
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach at all levels of undergraduate Media Studies program.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize current and emerging digital platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach any of the following: multi-camera field and studio production, video production, audio production, digital media streaming.
  • Demonstrated record of managing and mentoring production crews, particularly students or entry-level professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in developing revenue-generating or client-facing production models.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach sports and performance media with an awareness of identity and cultural dialogue and its relevance to media studies.
  • Capacity to develop and write curriculum collaboratively
