Director, Actuarial Services

Delta Dental is seeking a full‑time hybrid Director of Actuarial Services to guide all actuarial functions, including pricing, reserving, forecasting and predictive modeling. This role will collaborate with internal teams and partners such as North Winds Technology Solutions, Delta Dental Plans Association and other Delta Dental member companies.

Location:

Headquarters in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Hybrid schedule:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in office;
Wednesday and Friday remote.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement company goals and objectives in support of Delta Dental of Wisconsin's mission and strategy.
  • Accountable for efficient work between departments and business units.
  • Direct and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Identify and work with DDWI's technology resources to implement applications and systems.
  • Develop human resource recommendations and conduct performance management so the Actuarial team can successfully execute on its goals.
  • Develop department budget, authorize and analyze spending, and be accountable for results.
  • Identify, develop, and direct key performance metrics for managing and measuring department success.
  • Identify, develop, and communicate key messages to management, staff and clients about DDWI's actuarial work.
  • Ensure department meetings are planned, scheduled and facilitated to support DDWI's actuarial work and overall strategy.
  • Maintain collaboration and positive relationships between the Actuarial team and external/internal stakeholders, including North Winds, DDMCs, DDPA, and other business areas.
  • Ensure the Actuarial team collaborates with key stakeholders to develop new lines of business and improve existing business.
  • Oversee DDWI's core actuarial function, ensuring sound principles are applied in calculating claim reserves, pricing, experience studies, etc. for DDWI and other DDMCs.
  • Oversee the Actuarial Services consulting work and ensure the team builds relationships with DDMCs and subsidiaries.
  • Ensure the Actuarial team is represented in the Idea to Delivery process and requirements sign‑off.
  • Collaborate with leaders throughout the organization to support strategic initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of market and book of business trends—sales, persistency, loss ratios, expense ratios, claims costs—and assist in determining strategic direction.
  • Keep informed about market conditions, competitive information and political factors that may impact the organization’s goals, communicating key developments to stakeholders.
  • Oversee setting and monitoring the premium and claim budget and long‑range forecasts for dental and vision products.
  • Serve as the appointed actuary for any legal entity when formally appointed by that entity’s Board of Directors.
