Job Summary
Position:
Cashier – DUC Food Court. This student‑hourly role involves operating a cash register, providing friendly and courteous customer service, resolving issues, processing transactions, and supporting front‑of‑house duties during slow periods. The cashier reports to the University Dining Assistant Manager and Student Manager.
- Operate cash register: scan items, calculate totals, accept payments (cash, credit card, or Pointer ).
- Issue receipts, refunds, and change; handle returns and exchanges.
- Provide a positive customer experience by greeting guests, answering questions, and cross‑selling merchandise.
- Maintain accurate pricing and inventory records.
- Assist with front‑of‑house duties—cleaning tables, sweeping floors, emptying trash, and refilling condiments and beverage stations—when the register is less busy.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and complete University Dining Orientation and all required trainings (PCI compliance, information security, food handling, etc.).
- Follow reporting procedures if theft or loss is observed.
- Minimum 8 hours per week of work; part‑time student status (≥6 undergraduate credits or ≥5 graduate credits).
- Good academic standing (cumulative and semester GPA ≥2.0).
- Excellent math skills, ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and stand for extended periods on hard floors.
- Pass a criminal background check (only relevant conduct considered).
- Complete all UWSP mandatory trainings and department food‑handling training during onboarding.
Hourly wage: $12.50 per hour. Eight‑week probationary period with performance evaluation that may affect future employment.
