The Community Service Officer is a non‑certified uniformed (but not armed) member of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. This position is required to perform non‑hazardous duties that relate to public safety with the primary responsibility to promote a safe and healthy atmosphere in the community.
Minimum Qualifications- High School graduate or the equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's license, an equivalent out‑of‑state driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one by the time of hire.
- Enrolled, attending, or completed school for law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Must enroll in a POST‑approved (Peace Officer Standards and Training) law enforcement program by the date of appointment and maintain enrollment until graduation. The Community Service Officer is a transition position into Deputy Sheriff; a successful applicant must qualify and be appointed as a Deputy Sheriff within four years of service in this class.
- Experience as a Community Service Officer.
- Enrollment in a POST‑approved law enforcement program.
Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted; the top scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
Hours / DaysApproximately 20 hours per week and no more than 67 days per year. Flexible days and hours based on CSO and department needs, including weekends.
Anticipated Hiring Range$24.71 hourly
E‑Verify ParticipationWashington County participates in the federal E‑Verify program. The County will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with information from each new employee’s Form I‑9 to confirm work authorization. If the government cannot confirm that you are authorized to work, Washington County is required to give you written instructions and an opportunity to contact DHS and/or the SSA before taking adverse action against you, including terminating your employment.
Employers may not use E‑Verify to pre‑screen job applicants or limit the choice of documents presented for the Form I‑9.
Offers of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a criminal history background check prior to beginning employment with Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Criminal History RequirementsMust have no felony convictions (including pardons and/or expungements), no criminal convictions of a gross misdemeanor or equivalent level, and no convictions for physical assault, domestic assault, or eluding the police.

- Work independently and exercise sound judgment in enforcing ordinances using judgment and discretion in accordance with established policies and procedures.
