About the Role

The Nebraska Department of Education’s Disability Determination Services (DDS) assists thousands of Nebraskans each year through the Social Security Administration. As a Unit Clerk, you will support stakeholders—including DDS employees, SSA, and medical vendors—by managing medical appointments and paperwork necessary for determining Social Security Disability benefits.

Essential Functions

Scheduling
- Schedule consultative examinations (CEs) for claimants applying for disability.
- Provide reminders of appointments to claimants and verify attendance to CE appointments.
- Process CE authorizations, claimant correspondence, and travel payment documents.
- Provide accurate information for authorizations and details related to appointments.

Accounting
- Process daily deposits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payment vouchers, medical evidence, and bill reconciliation.
- Assist with the vendor payment process, audit issues, and invoice management.
- Review and post employee expense reimbursement documents, vendor invoices, and contract payments.
- Verify provider and claimant mileage reimbursement and issue reimbursement payments.

Vendor Management
- Assign and maintain vendor files by issuing identification numbers and collecting vendor information such as vendor number, address, federal tax number, etc.

Medical Records Management
- Scan, download, and transcribe incoming medical records, review for errors, and transfer reports into the Disability Case Processing System (DCPS).
- Send reports to medical providers for review and signature, track unreturned reports, and contact providers for follow-up.
- Maintain records, logs, queues, and files relating to reports, documents, and medical licenses.

Maintain regular & reliable attendance, travel independently, and work in a variety of settings.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of experience related to the essential functions of the position.
  • Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted to meet the minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
