Adjunct Instructor, Prison Education Program - Music - (206-2027) - PTT

Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and the Program Chair, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for instructing students in various music classes. Instructors will teach on-site at a correctional facility.

This position is within the Prison Education Program (PEP). Prior experience teaching in a prison context is preferred. Training and orientation are provided by the correctional facilities and Southeast Community College’s Prison Education Program.

This is a part‑time temporary position and is part of a pooled adjunct faculty posting for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Essential Functions
  • Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including lectures, small groups, demonstrations, and computer‑assisted instruction.
  • Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records of attendance, achievement, and progress.
  • Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
  • Operate and utilize appropriate technologies as part of the teaching process.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs as required.
  • Perform other college functions and duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Current knowledge and ability to teach music.
  • Ability to relate to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to develop and incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and techniques, including computer applications.
  • Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom use.
  • Effective written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music or a related discipline.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Music or a related discipline PLUS a minimum of 6 graduate credits in music or a mathematics‑based discipline, AND an approved plan to complete a Master’s degree within 2 years.
  • Teaching experience equivalent to at least 18 semester hours, or six courses/sections, at the secondary or post‑secondary level that applies directly to instructional responsibility.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in carceral locations.
  • Experience teaching online and/or hybrid formats.
  • Experience using digital conferences or distance learning technology to teach remotely.
  • Graduate coursework directly related to courses that will be taught.
Salary & Benefits

Salary TBD. Part‑time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.

Additional Information

Scheduling is based on the needs of Southeast Community College. Work hours, shifts, days, and locations may vary and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
