Under the general direction of the Associate Dean and Department Chair, the Adjunct Instructor will design and deliver laboratory instruction in biology and microbiology courses for Southeast Community College. The instructor will follow the course outline developed by lead instructors, use approved SCC lab manuals and procedures, and adapt instruction to meet the needs of students in classroom, online, hybrid, or lab settings.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each assigned course.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including lectures, small groups, demonstrations, and computer‑assisted instruction, tailored to individual student needs.
- Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
- Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
- Support and promote an inclusive learning environment, fostering a sense of belonging for all students, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain lab safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned within other divisions, programs, or areas.
- Work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Scheduling will be based on the needs of the College.
- Current knowledge of laboratory instruction in biological sciences or chemistry.
- Ability to relate positively to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors from diverse backgrounds.
- Effective communication skills in written, spoken, and phone contexts.
- Capacity to develop and implement a variety of teaching strategies and techniques in the classroom/lab.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment as necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Sciences or Chemistry discipline.
- Laboratory experience.
- Previous teaching experience in laboratory settings.
