Position Overview
For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full‑time and part‑time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States. These professionals support the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP). This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States.
LocationHybrid (approximately 70% Remote and 30% Onsite). Onsite work will be done at 9501 W. Lakeview Rd, Stillwater, OK 74075. Position open until filled.
Responsibilities- Assist the Supervisory Civil Engineer/Research Leader and staff in development of research standards, specifications, methodologies, engineering tools, drawings, guidance, training presentations, and operating procedures.
- Teach field training and outreach on engineering techniques, instrumentation deployment, data collection, analysis and management, risk assessment of dam incidents, and computer programming.
- Participate in project spot checks, design review, model construction, and technical documentation review.
- Coordinate ad‑hoc work groups for developing technical materials, standards, and tools.
- Conduct self‑directed research on current industry standards and share findings with stakeholders.
- Minimum of 20 years experience in civil, agricultural, geotechnical, hydraulic or environmental engineering, or a BA/BS degree in one of those disciplines.
- Professional engineer license preferred.
- Experience with instrumentation (sensors, pitot tubes, orifice meters, magnetic flow meters, fiber‑optic probes, UAVs, cloud technologies, surveying equipment) and soil, concrete, embankment testing methodologies.
- Knowledge of hydrologic process modeling, hydraulic structures, software development, and computer programming.
- Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, AutoCAD or other CAD; statistical software; ESRI products;
Flow 3D or other CFD; 3D printing.
- Training provided as needed.
- Travel: site visits, fieldwork (occasionally), overnight travel and out‑of‑state travel no more than two weeks per year.
- Physical: outdoor walking over uneven terrain, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, work may be sedentary at times.
- Safety gear will be provided by ARS; reasonable accommodations will be made for disabilities.
