Basic Purpose

Positions in this family are responsible for planning, supervising, and performing technical and professional work in an environmental quality, environmental management, or environmental health protection program. This includes performing inspections, surveys, and investigations, reviewing and approving federal grants, providing consultative services, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws. Specialty areas may include biology, health, geology, hydrology, and environmental science.

Typical Functions

The Environmental Programs Specialist IV (Facility Compliance Specialist) position is located within the Hazardous Materials Program of the Environmental Programs Division. The position will primarily be responsible for interpreting/providing general environmental compliance support and/or guidance for ODOT facilities statewide while occasionally providing technical assistance to ODOTs transportation program. The position will require a self-motivated personality with a strong aptitude for technical and creative problem solving, decision-making capabilities, project management and tracking skills, technical report review and writing abilities, and effective communication skills both in person and virtually, with a demonstrated ability to effectively present information to regulatory agencies and to internal and external stakeholders.

Ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of various local, state, and federal rules and regulations, guidance, etc., including but not limited to Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC), Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB), Oklahoma Department of Labor (ODOL), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Having a general knowledge of both under and above ground tank compliance activities, Community RIght to Know regulations, SPCC applicability and implementation, good housekeeping/pollution prevention compliance and/or best management practices.
