This position is located in the Industrial Wastewater and Stormwater Enforcement/Field Inspection Section located in Oklahoma City.
All applicants must be able to pass a background check and must be able to legally work within the United States. DEQ does not allow sponsorship for those on a H-1B visa. This position requires in-office work Monday - Friday. Other than regular field work, there is no remote work allowed.
Basic PurposeIND district engineers work on citizen complaints, conduct CEIs (Major inspections), Regulate stormwater construction and do monitoring/enforcement on other permitted facilities plus other duties as assigned.
Typical Functions- Investigate and close/resolve complaints involving industrial wastewater and stormwater systems in assigned district according to DEQ procedures.
- Prepare formal and/or informal enforcement actions resulting from significant violations at industrial wastewater and stormwater systems in assigned district. Track the progress of formal enforcement actions or take additional enforcement actions, as necessary, to ensure compliance.
- Perform Compliance Evaluation Inspections (including Industrial Users and Compliance Sampling Inspection) on major industrial wastewater systems as assigned and finalize inspection reports.
- Perform technical analyses/engineering reviews.
- Participate in management-approved training as a recipient and/or presenter, as necessary.
- Participate in Industrial Wastewater and/or Stormwater Outreach Programs as presenter and/or resource person or participant.
- Provide technical assistance to industrial wastewater and stormwater systems in assigned district by making on-site visits and documenting those visits with Technical Assistance Reports or Inspection Reports.
- Level III:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a college or university recognized by the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (in accordance with the standards of the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology). - Level IV:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as an Engineer Intern with the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (in accordance with the standards of the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology). - Level V:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as an Engineer Intern and one year of experience in the practice of engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of a master’s degree in engineering for the required one year of experience in the practice of engineering. - Level VI:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as an Engineer Intern and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of a master’s degree in engineering for the required one year of experience in the practice of engineering.
Employee will be required to travel within the State of Oklahoma and out-of-state on an occasional (as needed) basis. This position may require occasional overnight travel to fulfill job duties.
Physical RequirementsEmployee must have the ability to perform field activities that may require some strenuous physical activity. On occasion, walking up to one mile to reach sampling stations, wading across streams to collect measurements, and lifting up to 50 pounds to deploy and retrieve equipment may be required.
Other RequirementsPersons with out of state registration as an Engineer Intern must transfer their registration with the State of Oklahoma through the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors no later than six months from the date of appointment. To be considered for this position applicants must be within 60 days of obtaining their degree.
